Trigger Point Therapy for Dogs - Online Course
Welcome to the Trigger Points for Dogs foundation course presented by Andy Eckley.
This course is designed for therapists and any dog owner or carer. The objectives of the course are to provide you with an overview of Trigger Points, how these might affect your dog, and what you can do to help dissipate these triggers, relieve pain, and improvement movement in your dog.
If you are not a trained therapist, or do not have any previous experience of trigger points, we recommend watching the video classes in the order in which they appear.
You have lifetime access to this material, so don't worry if you miss anything the first time, you can always replay any of the videos.
All of the above course material including texts and video may be downloaded for your own personal use.
Disclaimer and Warning Notice
When referencing the course material please note that details of structures including muscles and tendons will vary tremendously from one breed to another. This is the case with dogs more than with any other species or type of animal. This is due to the fact that dogs are highly variable in their height and weight.
The positions shown for the appearance of trigger points are approximate and are based on common findings and the experience of the course presenter.
The techniques demonstrated in this course may only ever be performed by a suitably qualified healthcare professional.
Taking this course does not grant you any form of license to practice manual therapy. Do not practice any form of manual therapy unless it falls within your professional scope of practice.
Depending on where you practice, you may be required by law to meet certain criteria for practicing manual therapy, even if you are a qualified medical or healthcare practitioner.
If you are not sure about the laws and regulations governing the practice of manual therapy in your area, you must make the necessary enquiries to ensure that you meet any and all requirements that may be in place.
If you are unsure, please contact your professional organization or licensing board.
Dangers Associated with Treating Dogs
We advise always taking precaution by securing your dog with a muzzle before commencing treatment, and to ensure that the muzzle remains secure during treatment.
This advice is relevant to all dogs, even a dog who is domesticated and considered by you not to present a threat.
Applying pressure to a trigger point may scare your dog and cause it to react violently as a reaction and in a bid to defend.
Using a muzzle will ensure safety for you and, if applied correctly, should not cause any unnecessary or prolonged discomfort to your dog, or the dog that you are treating.
