Jeffrey Lutz CMTPT demonstrates the use of a pressure tool for the relief of common hip pain

 See Trigger Point Tools

Everyone should invest in a good pressure tool. More importantly, they should learn to use it regularly!

Just about all of us have trigger points. These are the tight bands that form within muscles ... something that previous generations happily referred to as "knots".

These trigger points (or "Knots") can exist for long periods without causing any obvious symptoms.

When the trigger points become active and start to cause pain, this is typically "referred" pain, that will be felt in an area distant from the area where the trigger points reside.

Left untreated, even the asymptomatic trigger points may lead to the development of more complex injuries.

Treating Trigger Points

Trained therapists are able to apply specific techniques to treat these trigger points.

Most of the techniques commonly in use were originally developed within the treatment rooms of elite sports and athletics.

The aim of trigger point therapy is literally to "de-activate" the trigger points that are causing pain or injury.

Whilst professional therapists use a number of methods, the most common way of treating trigger points is by applying sustained pressure with fingers, thumbs, and often elbows.

Self Care

By becoming just a little familiar with the relevant anatomy, there's a lot that you can achieve with very simple self care.

Tools are generally recommended for self care, based on feedback from clients who seem to act with more confidence and effect when using a pressure tool, rather than their fingers or thumbs.

In many cases, your therapist will be able to show you how to self treat most effectively.
